Got out fishing, on Friday worked really hard for a few small fish, heard from others and it was slow for them as well. Also received the new Trout Bums film, will do a write up on that as well soon.

Field Testing The new Reel,

Went out Sunday with the new reel, to see how she would stand some of the large fish we have in the Bow river, some people would say that a 4 wt is a little light for the Bow, but it tends to be a bit more fun and you really have to know how to fight a fish, much like steelheeders and Atlantic salmon fishermen.

The reel has a nice look and the weight is on the lighter end of things, when playing with it in my hands it has a nice smooth drag and retrieve. It is nicely balanced on the rod, giving the rod a nice counterbalance to make casting a little more easy.

When fighting a fish on the reel, the drag was smooth and could slow up a fish effectively, although the drag knob is on the small end, and difficult to precisely adjust. It has an exposed out rim I can use for palming to help slow a fast moving fish without adjusting the drag. The Large arbour design also gives it the ability pick up line quickly for such a small reel, and came in handy a number of times on the water with fish coming towards the shore.

Its a nice reel that looks and works great, but is missing the refinements of the more expensive reels, however for the price its a great reel.

March, and it feels like Spring,

I picked up a new reel on friday, with the knowledge that a chinook was to roll in, and the tempature was to rise above 0 degrees celsius (I only fish when my guides won't freeze). I bought a new Ross Reels Flystart for my 4wt rod, it had a nice look and good feel, and a price I could not refuse, I had it lined with GPX line which is a bit heavier for the fast action of the my rod.

I got on the water at about 10:30 in the morning, and was quickly into fish, a rainbow, and a few white fish. It slowed down for a bit, then I hooked up with an aggresive Rainbow that would not quit, and the fact I had the 4wt definetly did not help, with the bow not wanting to come anywhere near the surface, when I got him in the net I had landed a nice fat 17" Rainbow. A few more fish and I had to head to High River to spend some time with my family. It was a nice test for the new reel and I'm loving it. Will post more on it later.

Meet up with my fishing buddies Chris and Maxwell. We had a good day well over 20 fish between the 3 of us. Mostly Rainbows, but a couple of broonies and few whities. Fish where taken on San Juan worms, brassies, copper johns, and hares ear's.

Hit my home waters for couple of hours to see if the fish where active. I manage to get about a half dozen to the net. According the measure net they where all bout 13 to 14 inch's, except for a fat 16ish fish. First time out in a few months so it felt good. No pictures today cause i did not have my camera maybe next time. The fish where caught using San Juan worm, Brassie and Griffith's gnat.

Welcome to my Blog, Ive been trying to think of a good way to share my experience's in fly fishing, whether its on the water, or at my tying bench. I will be posting about my fishing trips, and about the fish I catch.

I also want to show you the flies I tie and use to catch fish, as I'm a seasoned fly tyer Ill be posting step by step tying instructions to tips on making fly tying easier.
